Experience the ride of your life!

Locomotive cab rides are available between Elbe Depot and the museum in Mineral on most train excursions. Ride alongside the engineer and fireman of a vintage steam or diesel locomotive on board a scheduled excursion through the forests and foothills of Mt. Rainier. A one-way cab ride from Elbe to Mineral or from Mineral to Elbe lasts approximately 30-35 minutes. A Standard or First Class seat ticket is required in advance to complete the round-trip experience. Round-trip cab rides are available with no seat ticket purchase necessary. Please arrive at Elbe Depot 45 minutes prior to the train’s departure. What to wear:
- Lace-up boots
- Overalls/Jeans
- Long-sleeved cotton shirt recommended
- Don’t forget a camera!
One-way cab rides can be purchased in addition to a Standard or First Class train ticket for $125. Two-way cab rides are available on select dates for $200 and do not require the purchase of a Standard or First Class train ticket. Must be 18 or older to ride. Hammond #17 – maximum 1 rider
Polson #70 – maximum 2 riders
FARES:
- One-way (Elbe → Mineral or Mineral → Elbe): $125, plus cost of Standard Class or First Class seat ticket
- Round-trip: $200, no excursion ticket required
